American Airlines: Business Class vs First Class

American Airlines: Business Class vs First Class
Latest posts by Candis Pope (see all)

I don’t always fly Business Class or First Class, but when I do, I like to go all out. There are some flights that I feel are worth the extra expense, just to get the additional perks. One of my go-to airlines is American Airlines. I really like their First Class benefits, especially for international flights. In this guide, I’ll break down American Airlines Business Class vs. First Class, so you can make an educated decision on which option is best for you. Stay tuned!

Business Class Takes the Cake

Overall, I think Business Class is better than First Class. Essentially, all the perks are the same. First Class doesn’t offer too much more, and for the additions that it does offer, it’s not worth the extra money. If the Five Star Services were included at no cost with a First Class ticket, then maybe it’d be better. But overall, I don’t think it is.

The Main Differences between Business Class and First Class

  • First Class is expensive, whereas Business Class is more affordable.
  • First Class earns more AAdvantage rewards, whereas Business Class does not.
  • First Class passengers get lots of privacy, whereas Business Class does not.
  • First Class offers better amenities than Business Class.
  • First Class passengers board before those in Business Class.
  • First Class offers a better selection of food and beverages than Business Class.

The Key Features of American Airlines Business Class

American Airlines offers a range of business class services that are designed to make traveling more comfortable and productive for business travelers. The airline’s Business Class cabin features larger seats with more legroom, power outlets, and priority privileges. American Airlines also offers complimentary premium beverages, meals, and in-flight entertainment in business class.

American Airlines Business Class is a great option for business travelers who want to travel in comfort and style. The airline’s premium amenities and attentive service make it a perfect choice for those who need to get work done while on the go. Whether you’re flying across the country or around the world, American Airlines Business Class will help you arrive at your destination refreshed and ready to take on the world. Some of its key features include the following:

Larger Seats with More Legroom

It’s a big deal for me to have extra legroom. I’m 5’7, and I really appreciate being able to sit in a seat that isn’t cramped. The extra space in American Airlines’ Business Class seats makes it possible to actually stretch out on the plane and relax and watch a movie.

Power Outlets

Having access to a power outlet on a plane is essential for me. I need to be able to charge my laptop, phone, and any other devices I might have with me. I work remotely, so I like to get last-minute work done before going on vacation. American Airlines Business Class offers power outlets at every seat, so you’ll never have to worry about your devices running out of juice.

Premium Dining

The food in American Airlines’ Business Class is top-notch. I’ve had some really great meals on the airline, and the complimentary wine and spirits are always a nice touch. The airline offers a wide range of tasty options to choose from, so you’re sure to find something to your liking.

In-Flight Entertainment

The in-flight entertainment on American Airlines is excellent. There’s a great selection of movies, TV shows, and music to choose from. You can also access the internet while in flight, which is handy for staying connected.

Price

The price of American Airlines Business Class is very reasonable. I’ve found that it’s usually only a few hundred dollars more than Economy, which is a small price to pay for the increased comfort and amenities. However, I usually opt for Business Class when I take long-haul flights. I don’t always see the point in flying Business Class for trips that are only a few hours.

Pros of American Airlines Business Class

  • Priority Privileges

I absolutely love the priority privileges that I get with American Airlines. Priority allows me to

board the plane first, which is great. I also get to zip through security and check-in. When the airport is busy, these perks are invaluable.

  • Great Customer Service

The customer service on American Airlines is outstanding. I’ve never had a bad experience with the airline, and the staff always goes above and beyond to make sure I’m comfortable and happy. Not to mention, they’re a trusted airline in my book. I find them to be reliable when it comes to luggage safety and on-time flights.

  • Lounge Access

Another perk that I really like about flying Business Class is the lounge access. During busy travel seasons, I like to get to the airport three hours ahead of time, just in case there’s an issue. Lounge access comes in handy when I have time to spare before boarding!

Cons of American Airlines Business Class

  • Not Valuable for Short Flights

In my opinion, Business Class isn’t worth the extra money for short flights. The ground amenities will always be a plus. However, once you’re in the air, it’s not that impressive. You don’t get the most out of a Business Class ticket unless it’s for a long-haul flight.

Key Features of American Airline’s First Class

American Airlines First Class is top-tier. Passengers in First Class are treated to the best of the best, from private suites and premium dining to world-class customer service. If money is no object, and you’re looking for the ultimate flying experience, then First Class is for you.

First-Class Suites

The highlight of American Airlines First Class is the private suites. Each suite has a door for privacy, a reclining seat, and plenty of space to stretch out. There’s also a built-in massage function and an adjustable air nozzle to keep you comfortable. If you want to really relax on your flight, First Class is the way to go. I love having my personal space when flying First Class. But keep in mind that you may not get this type of seating. It depends on the length of the flight.

Premium Dining

The food in American Airlines First Class is incredible. You’ll have your choice of gourmet meals, and the complimentary wine and spirits are top-notch. The airline also offers a wide range of non-alcoholic beverages, so you can stay hydrated during your flight. Good meals are a big deal to me. When I spend lots of money on a flight, I don’t want to spend more money on expensive airport food. Therefore, I appreciate that American Airlines serves food that I think is tasty.

In-Flight Entertainment

The in-flight entertainment on American Airlines First Class is nice. There’s a good selection of movies, TV shows, and music to choose from. You can also access the internet while in flight, which is handy for staying connected. Plus, Wi-Fi comes in handy when I want to work during my flight.

Price

The price of American Airlines First Class is expensive. It’s usually way more than Economy, which is a lot of money to spend on a flight. However, if you can afford it, First Class is worth the money. The private suites, premium dining, and outstanding customer service make it a flying experience like no other. I opt for First Class flights when I have enough AAdvantage rewards to cover the price.

Pros

  • First-Class Customer Service

The customer service in American Airlines First Class is amazing, as I stated above. The flight attendants are attentive and efficient, and they go out of their way to make sure passengers are comfortable. I’ve never had a bad experience with the airline, and the staff always goes above and beyond to make sure I’m happy. I also like the customer service department. Every time I’ve called, the agents were professional and knew what they were doing.

  • Five Star Service

American Airlines First Class passengers can pay for luxury services, like car service coordination and personalized service throughout the airport. And of course, First Class includes access to lounges and priority boarding and check-in with the ticket price. When I fly First Class, I know I’ll get an excellent experience.

  • Better Loyalty Benefits

When I buy First Class tickets with American Airlines, it gets me so many loyalty points. Of course, as I move through the ranks, the more AAdvantage benefits I’ll receive. Sometimes I’ll splurge on a First Class ticket if I’m really close to a higher tier level.

Cons

  • Not valuable for short flights

I feel the same about First Class as I do about Business Class. When I’m taking a flight under 5 hours, I see no real value in buying a First Class ticket. Yes, the ground perks in the airport are amazing, but I don’t think First Class is worth the extra money once I’m in the air.

Alternative Airfare Options

American Airlines Premium Economy

If you’re not keen on buying a Business Class or First Class ticket, American Airlines Premium Economy is the next best thing. Passengers receive many perks, like wider seats, Wi-Fi, and chef-inspired dining. In my opinion, this is the way to go for domestic flights. I have flown premium economy with American Airlines, and I felt like I got a good balance of a first-class feel, without paying the price. I’ll usually fly Premium Economy for flights that are roughly 5 hours.

Delta First Class

This makes it a popular choice for business and leisure travelers alike. The First Class cabin on Delta flights offers a variety of amenities that are designed to make your flight as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

First Class passengers receive comfortable, reclining seats with plenty of legroom. Delta also offers a variety of food and drink options for First Class passengers, as well as complimentary in-flight entertainment. I think Delta’s First Class is comparable to American Airlines. From my experience, Delta is also a bit cheaper than American.

United Airlines Business Class

United Airlines offers a variety of business class options to suit the needs of any traveler. The airline’s Business First cabin offers lie-flat seats, increased legroom, and access to an on-board bar. For those looking for a more economical option, United’s Economy Plus cabin offers extra legroom and priority boarding. In my opinion, this is another good option for long, domestic flights. It’s nice to get the extra perks and comfort, without paying too much money.

Question: How expensive is American Airlines First class?

Answer: American Airlines First Class is one of the most expensive classes to fly in. The average cost of a First Class ticket on American Airlines is $2,000. This is significantly more than the cost of a Business Class ticket, which averages $1,500. First Class tickets can cost as much as $5,000 for international flights. But of course, these are general estimates. The prices for a First Class flight could be higher or lower.

Question: How can I get access to American Airlines Five Star Services?

Answer: In order to book the Five Star Services, call 877-578-2702 (877-5STAR-02).

Question: Is either First Class or Business Class worth the money?

Answer: This really depends on the individual. Some people feel that First Class is worth the money because of the extra space and amenities. Others feel that Business Class is a better value because it is less expensive and still provides a comfortable experience. Ultimately, the decision comes down to personal preference and budget. As I explained, I think Business and First Class are best suited for long-haul flights.

My Final Thoughts on First Class vs. Business Class

Well, there’s not a huge difference between First Class and Business Class. Sure, First Class will give you more legroom and provide a few more amenities—but for the extra cost—I don’t think it’s worth it. However, I feel like everyone should experience a First Class flight at least once in their life. If you’re taking a flight that’s a few hours, I say go for it. Splurge a little!

I hope this guide helps you decide which option to choose!
