My Cabeau On the Go Sling Pack Review

My Cabeau On the Go Sling Pack Review
Latest posts by Lauren Vigdor (see all)

I’ve learned two things as I’ve gotten older: My neck officially refuses to sleep unsupported on planes, and I absolutely cannot juggle twelve loose travel accessories while sprinting between airport gates like I’m competing on The Amazing Race. Since COVID, I’ve also become a bit of a germaphobe, especially when it comes to airports. So when I invested in a new travel neck pillow earlier this year, I wanted to get a bag to carry it around in. And it just so happened that the Cabeau On the Go Sling Pack became one of my new favorite accessories, even on non-travel days.

Bottom Line Up Front

I really like this thing.

It’s the perfect size for the Cabeau Evolution Classic neck pillow (it’s almost like it was made for it or something), but it’s also just a great everyday carry bag. It’s compact, but it still manages to hold more than it reasonably should. Best of all, it’s smartly designed in a way that feels both intentional and genuinely travel-friendly.

If you travel with a regular neck pillow, want a hands-free bag that doesn’t make you look like a tourist on a school field trip, or simply want something lightweight for daily errands, this bag checks a lot of boxes.

About the Cabeau Brand

Cabeau On the Go Sling Pack Review

If you’ve ever walked through an airport, you’ve probably seen Cabeau, even if you didn’t realize it. They’re best known for their neck pillows, especially the ones that look a little more structured and engineered than those ubiquitous U-shaped marshmallows everyone used to clip to their backpacks in the early 2000s. But Cabeau has slowly expanded into other travel accessories: compression socks, sleep masks, travel blankets, and (of course) this sling pack.

A few of their neck pillows don’t come with travel bags or covers, especially the more affordable models like the Evolution Classic. That’s where the On the Go Sling Pack steps in. It gives you a clean, protected place to store your pillow or other essentials, and it solves the “I really don’t want my pillow touching the TSA conveyor belt” problem.

Cabeau has also leaned into sustainability more recently, with products like the Evolution Earth neck pillow and this sling pack, which is made from recycled plastic bottles. I’ll admit it makes me feel a tiny bit better about buying yet another bag, especially one with such a niche purpose (but spoiler: this bag ended up being more versatile than I thought it would be).

My Cabeau On the Go Sling Pack Review

Cabeau On the Go Sling Pack Review

I originally got the On the Go Sling Pack to go with my Cabeau Evolution Classic neck pillow. The Evolution Classic is one of Cabeau’s more basic neck pillows, and it’s one of the few that doesn’t come with a case or bag to stash it in. I like keeping my neck pillows in some sort of bag so that I’m not just setting them down on the TSA conveyor belt or any of the other high-traffic and not necessarily sanitary areas of an airport. (If you are really worried about germs, it’s worth noting that there is a removable, machine-washable microfiber cover on the pillow itself. I just like having an extra layer of protection since I won’t be able to wash the cover in between it hitting the TSA line and then resting up against my cheek).

So really, the plan was simple: get a basic protective bag for my pillow and call it a day. But once I had the sling in my hands, I realized it was way more functional than a single-purpose travel pouch.

First Impression

My first thought was that the bag felt more structured than a typical soft sling, which I liked. I don’t love bags that go full-limp-noodle the second you put them down. The material is nothing fancy, but it’s smooth, water-resistant, and durable, and the zippers feel substantial without being overly stiff. It’s compact enough that it doesn’t feel bulky, but not so small that it loses function. The organization is surprisingly robust, and for a small-ish sling, it adapts well whether you’re traveling, commuting, or just running errands.

Testing It Out

Since I didn’t have an immediate trip planned (which is honestly tragic), I tested the sling pack in my normal day-to-day life. Or I should say, my husband tested it in day-to-day life. Because he immediately claimed it as his own.

Before I relinquished my sling pack, I obviously tried it with the neck pillow, which squishes into the bag perfectly. I didn’t have to force it, but it did compress the pillow enough to make it a little more compact and easy for travel.

After that, it made the rounds with us: grocery shopping, bumming around the city, walking to the brewery down the street. It’s the perfect size for keys, a wallet, sunglasses (in a case!), and leaves plenty of room to spare for the odd purchase or souvenir. We successfully carted a bag of locally roasted coffee beans home in it, along with our usual everyday carry items.

The sling pack is enough that you forget it’s there, but sturdy enough that you don’t have to baby it. The strap doesn’t dig into your shoulder, and I love that it hugs close to the body, which is important if you like to feel vaguely pickpocket-proof when you travel.

Feature Breakdown

Here’s a deeper look at all the bells and whistles:

Main Compartment

Cabeau On the Go Sling Pack Main Compartment

This large, zippered pouch is the perfect size for:

  • A Cabeau Evolution Classic neck pillow (obviously)
  • A Kindle
  • Snacks
  • A small camera
  • A light cardigan or scarf

The structure helps it hold its shape enough that you’re not digging around blind while standing in a crowded airplane aisle.

Front Zip Pouch with Headphone Passthrough

This is where I’ll keep my phone when I’m listening to something wired (yes, some of us still use wired earbuds occasionally. Pry them from my cold, dead hands.)

The passthrough is small, unobtrusive, and perfect if you like keeping your phone zipped away but still accessible. Even without wired headphones, it’s a good spot for:

  • A portable charger
  • Lip balm
  • Sunglasses

Small Velcro Pocket

Think of this as the “stuff I need constantly” pocket. It’s ideal for:

  • Boarding passes
  • Tissues
  • A MetroCard
  • Gum
  • Keys

It’s not super large, but that’s the point. It keeps tiny items from disappearing into the abyss of the main compartment.

Back Stretchy Slip Pocket

This is the pocket I didn’t know I needed until I used it. It’s stretchy, quick-access, and sits flat against your back while wearing the bag. It doesn’t zip but holds items in place with elastic, which makes it perfect for a small water bottle or anything else that’s a slightly odd shape.

Hidden RFID-Lined Pocket

Inside that stretchy pocket is a discreet RFID-lined sleeve perfect for:

  • Credit cards
  • IDs
  • A little emergency cash

It’s subtle, secure, and totally hidden unless you know to look for it.

Small Strap and Clip to Attach to Luggage or a Plane Seat

This is one of my favorite features. There’s a small strap with a clip at the top of the bag that lets you attach the sling pack to your suitcase handle, a plane seat pocket, the tray table hinge, or a hook in a bathroom stall when you don’t want your bag touching the floor. Having your essentials suspended and accessible mid-flight is ideal. I like that it will keep me from doing the annoying juggling thing when I’m reading a book or listening to music on my phone when the in-flight meals get handed out. I won’t have to put my stuff away to lower the tray table, and I won’t have to awkwardly reach under the seat while trying not to accidentally knock my drink into the lap of the person sitting next to me.

Seatbelt-Style Clips & Padded Strap

The strap is comfortable, breathable, and adjusts easily. The clips are sturdy but simple. It’s not fancy, but it feels reliable. And with travel bags, that’s important.

What I Like

  • Extremely functional and thoughtful design: This is a bag designed by people who clearly travel a lot, and the features just make sense.
  • Perfect fit for the Evolution Classic: This is clearly a win, since that’s why I got the thing to begin with!
  • Lightweight but structured: It holds up without feeling stiff.
  • Great for everyday use, not just travel: I’ve (my husband has) used it walking around the city and running errands.
  • Recycled materials: Bonus points for sustainability.
  • 1-year limited warranty: I have never used a warranty for a bag, but I appreciate the sentiment.

Where I Think It Could Be Improved

Nothing is perfect, so here are the things that could be better:

  • Not machine washable: I get why (structure, hardware, etc.), but I’m someone who wants to throw everything into a washing machine after a long trip. Spot cleaning works fine, but still.
  • More color options would be nice: It currently only comes in black, which is classic, but I wouldn’t mind something a little more fun.
  • Sometimes the main compartment can feel a hair snug: Not too small, just…cozy. If the next version had a slightly expandable gusset, I wouldn’t complain.

Alternatives to the Cabeau On the Go Sling Pack

If you’re not totally sold, here are a few alternatives, though they’re all more expensive than the Cabeau sling:

  • Patagonia Atom Sling: Lightweight and durable, but much larger and more outdoorsy-looking. Better for hiking, not as ideal for plane travel.
  • Bellroy Sling: Very sleek and stylish, great organization, but significantly more expensive.
  • Lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag: A cult favorite, but not large enough for a neck pillow or water bottle.

Final Thoughts

I was in the market for a case for my neck pillow, and ended up with a great everyday carry bag. It’s one of those rare travel accessories that quietly earns its keep. It’s useful on travel days, but just as handy when you’re running errands or heading to the gym. It’s not flashy, but it’s thoughtfully designed, reasonably priced, and genuinely convenient. If you’re already a Cabeau pillow convert, it feels like the natural companion. I didn’t expect to love it as much as I do, but for such a simple bag, it’s shockingly versatile. It probably won’t change your whole travel routine, but it will make things easier, cleaner, and more organized.
