We’re messaging each other on teams or texting long before 5:00 p.m.. As a group my friends and I are always ready to clock out and immediately switch gears to socializing.
But honestly, planning a quick post-work drink requires speed and a low barrier to entry. Basically we can’t exchange more than five messages about where to meet up before it becomes too much and the anxiety starts to build.

What Makes the Perfect After-Work Venue
On this list you’ll find venues that have early openings, doors opening between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. so that when you get released at 4:00 or 4:30 you can slide right in with active taps and a full staff. I found that a lot of upscale cocktail lounges didn’t welcome guests until around 6:00 or 7:00 which instantly disqualifies them in my opinion, at the very least for a post-work drink that is.
It also has to be a place that is in close proximity to work because no one wants to commute an extra 30 minutes just to go all the way across town for a drink. The ideal spot should be a tight 5 minute walk from a major commercial center like Midtown East, the Financial District, Chelsea, or tech-heavy sections of Flatiron.
And I need somewhere that doesn’t have strict reservations, mandatory table service, and in effect let’s me show up on my own, with a friend, or with a lot of people right away. The last thing I want is to be tired, ready to head home after meeting some friends, and I have to wait 20 minutes to flag down a waitress for my bill.
